Biography

For me social work and therapy is in the blood, having had two amazing grandparents who were pioneering social workers in the 40’s and 50’s, I was been inspired to follow their lead. Despite their best attempts to test my commitment I qualified as social worker in 1983. At first I worked in residential care with children and then adults with learning disabilities. I ran a special needs unit in the midlands and then designed play schemes here in Plymouth. For the last 25 years I have worked with older people who have mental health issues. For 11 of those years I worked as an Approved Social Worker. Following further training I now work as a specialist counsellor, supervisor,
groupworker and trainer in various settings.

I co- developed the New Horizons group for people who have experienced Childhood Sexual Abuse and continue to develop the model with a post group, creative group for graduates which I have the joy to be able to run in the public sector. (see publications below).

I have delivered sessional work with…

  • The Eddystone Trust, as a counsellor, workshop facilitator and trainer
  •  Plymouth MIND
  •  The University of Plymouth, as a supervisor and trainer
  •  Plymouth City Council, as a group facilitator and trainer
  •  Individual clients for counselling, supervision and personal development
  •  Care Agencies and businesses nationally and locally (see link below)
  •  Livewell SW
  •  Age UK
  •  Exeter Nightstop
